Our kitchens are the true beating heart of our homes. A place where we do so much more than cook and eat, it’s the canvass to every family story and the backdrop to a million big and small moments.

Design Trends 2021 (Part 1)

As the way we live and work continues to evolve, (no more so than the past year), so too is the way we use our kitchen. Working harder than ever as the dependable multitasker, it’s no longer just a place to cook and eat, it’s a workplace, a classroom, a snug and a retreat to creativity and relaxation. Flexibility and functionality have become key to our needs but aesthetics are also more important now that we are spending more time in our homes.

Let’s take a look at some of 2021’s latest trends in kitchen design.

The Colour Green.

Design Trends 2021 (Part 1)

2021 is all about the colour green. It works beautifully in both traditional and modern kitchens, creating elegance and energy to the space. Green symbolizes the natural and the organic, with its strong association with the outside world. Traditionally thought to represent tranquillity, the colour green is believed to benefit overall mental health and wellbeing. From deep, earthy shades to the softer sages and apples, this versatile colour looks fantastic when paired with natural woods, brass or copper for a modern yet timeless look.

Marble Effects

Design Trends 2021 (Part 1)
2021 see’s the return of marble. Stylish and elegant with its cool look and strong veining, it creates a stunning contrast to dark colours such as green, navy blue, charcoal grey, and black and is a firm favourite currently. Combined with textured woods it creates an opulent but homely look. A premium looking marble effect can be achieved using quartz and laminate, mimicking the look but without the high maintenance. Larger veining is popular in large open spaces on worktops and wrapped around islands. Smaller veining is a better choice for more compact kitchens on worktops and splashbacks.

Open Shelves

Open shelves are the perfect spot to showcase your most attractive kitchen accessories, lending your kitchen a homely and self-expressive feel. Kitchen shelves are becoming a firm, a perfect place for styling with coloured glassware, pictures, books and eye-catching appliances. As many of us have been spending more time at home, surrounding ourselves with the comfort of personal treasured items helps to create a space of comfort and security.

A Twist on Traditional

Design Trends 2021 (Part 1)
Classic kitchens continue to stand the test of time. Elegant and timeless, their ability to fit into both modern and traditional homes gives them an enduring appeal. A traditional shaker style door in a modern on trend colour, paired with handles in brass or copper, creates a striking design statement.

Two Tone Kitchens

Design Trends 2021 (Part 1)
Two tone, contrasting finishes can be used to stunning effect in a kitchen, when done well. This look can be achieved in a few different ways, including; Use of different wall and floor mounted cabinetry; pairing dark toned units with lighter coloured elements, for either a subtle, complimentary, shading effect (for example a dramatic charcoal grey with a softer dove grey), or a more striking contrast for a bolder statement. A feature island, in an eye-catching, bold colour or finish can sit successfully in a more muted backdrop to achieve this more dramatic alternative. Working with a contrasting scheme allows you to really break up colour, build layers and introduce a unique, interesting and even playful look to your kitchen design.
